Major Lazer -  Jump Up (Leif Jones Remix)

Leif, now under the alias Leif Jones (???), has gotten back into the groove with a remix of Major Lazer’s “Jump Up”. According to my brother (READ: RELIABLE NEWS SOURCE) Leif is completely renewing his style so he can “stop playing for white hipster kids”. It’s almost a shame, until you realize anything Leif Jones makes will be incredible. This remix included.

Glass Candy - Geto Boys (Leif Remix)

LEIF, the amazing Palms Out prodigy, has taken Glass Candy’s already amazing “Geto Boys” and transformed into the ultimate remix. It’s a hard sound, typical Leif style, using awesome loops and samples from the actual Geto Boys.

Look for a quick style change at 1:30 to put this remix over the top. Excellent work done by an upcoming master.

PdL - Give (Leif Remix)

Off PdL’s album “Stop Means Go” comes “Give” which Leif has remixed into this awesome track. Note that it’s not totally like Leif’s original tracks. It’s still electro, but this one is a bit calmer and less dark. It’s bouncier too.

Leif has a new song.

Well technically it’s a demo. I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while. It’s still got that classic Leif feel- dark, electronic, repeated lines, and the occasional chick that comes in to sing with him (see Timbs). I feel bad ripping the song off his myspace, but seeing that it’s just a demo I don’t think it’s nearly as bad.

Also on Leif’s myspace is his verse in Purple Crush’s “Get Digital”. It’s awesome. It’s got a little bit of a different sound- more drums- but it still seems like the track Leif would star in. Worth a listen and you should check out the whole track too. He’s definitely one of the top 10 electro musicians out there right now, even if he does only have 3 tracks.

I’m Obsessed With Leif. I have to admit. Leif kind of scares the shit out of me. His voice is totally awesome, but mixed with his style of music it’s sounds real dark. Speaking of dark, is Leif really really black? For real. Look at his Myspace pics.

Anyway, I totally respect Leif. Not only because I like that dark electro sound, but because he has a sick style. Diamonds, geometrical shapes. He’s really “in” with the whole design scene. It’s awesome.

Apparently he’s a really cool guy too. Real nice. I really want to see him live.

Keeping up with the whole scary theme, my favorite track is named “Black Magic”. It’s got a breakbeat theme with electro layers. To be honest with you, I don’t even know what that means. Is it bad that, as a blogger, I might describe something as breakbeat even if it’s not?

Santogold and Diplo - Top Ranking // I have yet to meet someone that doesn’t like Santogold. She’s really one of the few perfect musicians out there. M.I.A. of course is a legend. And Diplo, well he runs Mad Decent. Enough said. So when I heard about collaborations between Santi White and Diplo, and then a collab with Santogold and M.I.A., I was amazed.

Basically Santogold and Diplo put together a huge mix called “Top Ranking” which is for sale. A few tracks have been released off it, and of course they are awesome

Santogold - Starstruck (Diplo Remix) We’ve heard this one before on Diplo’s myspace. It’s a good one. Starstruck certainly isn’t my favorite track off her debut album, but it is a worthwhile track and the remix is even better.

Santogold & Diplo - Guns of Brooklyn (doc and jon hill dub) This one. This is the best track I got. It’s just awesome. Real chill, downtempo track, but it still has a good beat. highly recommended.

Santogold, M.I.A., and Gorilla Zoe - Get It Up (Radioclit Remix) This one I don’t understand. First of all, who the hell is Gorilla Zoe? Second, where is the original Get It Up? How can there be remix if there has been no original to hit the blogosphere. Finally, why does this track just end randomly? There’s just too many questions. I’m assuming that this too is off Top Ranking. I don’t know. It’s like a tribal, hip-hop track. Sounds more like a Diplo song rather than these 3 girls. however, if it is off Top Ranking that would make sense. It is Diplo’s mix after all.

Edit Ok now I understand. Radioclit did a track with Santogold and M.I.A. last year. However this version and the version that is on Radioclit’s myspace is the version from Top Ranking. That means that this track is remixed, presumably by Diplo, and includes Gorilla Zoe too. So basically, exactly what “Da Info” said.

I’m rambling. Sorry I don’t post more. Tomorrow I’ll post some Leif because he’s constantly on repeat here.
