diplo-remix The Black Ghosts - Repetition (Diplo Remix) // I never listened to The Black Ghosts. I think it may be because someone told me they were a start-up band from Simian and I already knew about SMD so I didn’t bother. I mean, how much Simian do I really need?

Regardless, Diplo has chosen to remix their track “Repitition”. It’s not the typical Diplo remix. It’s not all about big drums and claps. In fact, it sounds a little bit like the Soulwax remix of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It’s certainly not the classic Diplo remixes/tracks that sound all tropical-like. His style has changed.

I kind of miss the old Diplo. Actually, I really miss the old Diplo. Don’t get me wrong. I still like the remixes and songs “Betty” and “Young Folks Pussy”, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for some classic baile funk “Diplo Rhythm” off Florida.

I guess I can only dream of a day when Diplo will make more albums that everyone steals instead of buying.

It’s still a good track. There’s a bit of crescendo to the end of the song. It’s good. Like it’s full of anticipation. Not much else I can say. Can’t compare it to the original as I haven’t heard it. Duh. Take a listen.

And while you’re at it, someone tell me what the story behind The Black Ghosts is. Are they any good?

Time Machine feat. Greg Nice - Unfortunate Twist (video premiere)

I’m pretty proud of Time Machine. They’ve gone from sending emails to blogs promoting their remixes to MTVu in about half a year! I’d like to say that we’re friends, but we’re more like acquaintances. They’re cool though. They remind of WHY? but more focused on rap and with more soul rhythm. Anyway, the music video premier of “The Unfortunate Twist” has been posted on MTVu! It’s a real cool video- completely animated. The song/video features Greg Nice (of Nice & Smooth). It’s real catchy.

Time Machine’s album “Life is Expensive” came out not too long ago and I suggest you check it out. The trio has a real unique sound that you only grow to like as you listen to more. Buy it on iTunes!

Bassment Party The Cool Kids release “The Bake Sale”… finally // Hip-Hop’s The Cool Kids have finally realized their latest EP to a world of fans waiting for more kick-ass hits like “Black Mags”. This second EP, titled “The Bake Sale”, dropped by them features some of the same tracks from “Totally Flossed Out”, their first EP, and “Instant Mixtape Classic”. Though I haven’t fully analyzed it, I’m pretty sure the ones of “The Bake Sale” have been switched up and edited somehow.

Not all the tracks have been seen before. Bangers like “Bassment Party” have never been seen before, or at least I’ve never seen them. “Bassment Party” is pretty funny actually, starting it off with making fun of Fergie.

Just like all Cool Kids tracks, they’re pretty simplistic. A simple background loop and good raps. I’m not a fan of all the tracks, so if you do decide to buy this online you might want to preview the tracks before you buy them all.

Just looking around my google reader, Pitchfork isn’t very fund of the Cool Kids and this EP. I wouldn’t let Pitchfork stop you from at least downloading some tracks. Pretty much everyone hates Pitchfork anyway. We just keep coming back for more.

I really hope that the Cool Kids keep making raps about bikes. It makes me feel cool when I’m riding my bike and rocking out and everyone looks at me like I’m about to fall off my bike.

Anyway, luckily the Cool Kids’ LP will be dropping this year too. It’ll be called “When Fish Ride Bicycles”. Yes. More tracks about bikes. I love it. (not sarcasm)

Support bicycles and the raps about them! Buy this EP on iTunes. But word on the street is KidzbyColette has a surprise for you if you don’t have money.

Holy shit, Ed Banger explosion. New Busy P and Justice.

mgmtjustice

Starting with Justice just to get them over with. I don’t know why I’m so hostile towards to the French bro’s. I should probably be nicer in the future. But for now, WHEN WILL JUSTICE LEAVE THE ALT BRO BANDS ALONE! First they attack the Klaxons with that remix, now poor MGMT gets the Justice treatment too. Leave em alone Gaspard! They just wanna do some acid and make synth sounds that are supposed to sound like crickets and lions (see the beginning of “Time to Pretend”).

All shitty jokes it’s not too bad. It sounds basically the same with that Justice sound. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just a noise they often use. I guess it’s a bass with a bunch of crazy effects on it. It’s faster and I guess you could call it danceable. I really need to stop the Justice hate. It’s getting old.

Moving on towards Busy P… Remember that shitty “new” track that leaked. You know, “To Protect and Entertain” where they guy has the really annoying rap. Anyway, Crookers, who have always done the best remixes (Check out the remix they did for Rye Rye), remixed the Busy P track. It’s pretty good now! It’s not the same boring Busy P track anymore. It’s switched up with some crazy beats that I can actually see someone dancing to. Good job, Crookers! You’ve done it again!

Busy P - To Protect & Entertain (Crookers Remix)

In other Busy P news, the “Pedrophilia” track that’s been lingering around Pedro Winter’s myspace for a while has finally been mastered. It’s actually pretty good. You can tell it’s a regular Busy P track though. Gets a bit boring at time, but ultimately I enjoy it. Not much else to say.

Busy P - Pedrophilia (Mastered)

DISCUSSION QUIZ: Should I stop the hate? If there actually are any terf-work readers out there, do you mind the hate? Does that turn off future subscribers?

Little Bit Lykke Li - Little Bit // Meet Lykke Li. She’s poppy. She’s folkish. But at the same time, she’s danceable. I’ll admit, her voice sounds like she’s 14 sometimes; but it fits her style so well.

The background music she’s using in “Little Bit” using reminds me of some sort of Beirutesque track, stripped of accordion, male vocals, and a title that I don’t understand.

Now knowing that “Sterogum named her an artist to watch in October 2007”, I plan on hearing her on the local college, alt radio station. They’ve got Santi White (AKA Santogold) playing, so I guess Lykke Li will be no exception.

I think the next step for Lykke Li would be to get remixed by Crystal Castles or LA Riots or someone. Maybe that old friend of TRFWRK, Night Facilities will remix that shit. I can hope.

Ya know, in the video I’ll post later on she kind of looks like Bjork. I know, I know. Just because someone is an alt female and exposes their forehead and makes a video in which they’re head is bobbing around like there’s a laser-show going on, doesn’t mean that they’re like Bjork. I just kind of have that stereotype in my head. But in other pictures, she kind of reminds me of a modern day Edie Sedgwick, with a more posh haircut. Then again, in other pictures she doesn’t really look like anyone.

Can you spot which one was made a fool of by “Factory Girl”?

Above all, Lykke Li is a pretty cool chick. I like her voice and you should definitely check her out.

ROCKINGIT Fearless Four - Rockin It // I’m sorry but we definitely need some old school rap going on here. I found this one in the mix that Diplo made for some new Clot store and I loved it. I obviously don’t remember it from when it first came out in 1982 because I’m not that old. Regardless, it’s a sick song. It’s based off that controversial Kraftwerk track “The Man Machine”.

It’s kind of like The Beastie Boys’ “Ch-Check It Out” in the sense that I often listen to the first 30 seconds then change it. The Beastie Boys have that “Awwwww yeah!” and The Fearless Four has “Tito’s rockin it, yes he is rockin it!”

It’s a fun song. I really recommend. It’s HIGHLY REC’CD.

Speaking of all this rockin, it’s only necessary to also post DJ Mehdi’s “Pony Rockin” which is clearly the illest track on the “Lucky Boy” album.

I really haven’t been looking around for good MP3s to post, nor do I have anything worthy of posting (besides that CLOT mix by Diplo). so, I’ll tide you over for the next week or so with this Santogold track.

<3 you, Santi White.

Carlos Walter Wendy StanleyGhostly Swim // Remember when Adult Swim did “Chocolate Swim” with Chocolate Industries? Well they’ve done it again, but this time with Ghostly International. I actually haven’t listened to it, but once I have I will update this post.

DOWNLOAD HERE

At that link you can download or listen to the compilation online.
To be honest with you, I have not heard of most of these musicians and artists. But then again, when Chocolate Swim came out I had hardly heard of Spank Rock. We’ll see what new favorite artists come off this little free goody.

Enjoy the album!
